This quarter in Chapel, we will be studying the Fruits of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Faithfulness and Self-Control (Galatians 5:22). “Tammy” the apple tree is joining us in Chapel and she is helping to teach us about God’s good fruit. The children are learning that without God’s help through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are unable to produce good fruit like love and kindness.
We have a fun song we sing when we greet Tammy each chapel. You can sing it with your child to the tune of “Itsy Bitsy Spider”…
Once there was an Apple seed planted in the ground. Down came the rain, watering all around. Out came the sun as bright as it could be. And soon that little apple seed grew to be a tree – named Tammy!
This week, I introduced the first fruit of the spirit – Love (shown as a strawberry). We learned the Bible tells us 3 things about love:
- “God is Love” (1 John 4:8)
- We are to…”Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength.” (Matthew 22:37)
- We are to…”Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39
We also talked about the feeling “love.” Tammy told us it is best to “like” things and “love” people. So we decided we “like” pizza and Disney World, but we “love” Mommy and Daddy!
I encourage you to reinforce our Chapel teachings at home. As always, it is my joy to partner with you in teaching your child about our Great God!
